About Cory Marshall

Cory Marshall is a landscape photographer based in Wanaka, New Zealand. Originally from California, Cory and his wife Kelly relocated to Wanaka in 2017.

Cory’s work focuses on stunning natural landscapes from around the world. Since moving to New Zealand, Cory has built a wonderful library of New Zealand images from the rugged coastlines to the snow-capped mountains. After moving to New Zealand Cory's plan was always to open up his own gallery to display his work.

Whilst living in Colorado and California, one of Cory's preferred methods of showcasing his photography was on ChromaLuxe aluminium metal panels using the dye sublimation printing process. In New Zealand however there weren't any companies using this process to produce prints in the larger sizes Cory was after. Following a lot of research into the process, a trip back to the United States to intern at a gallery using the same printing method, and finally purchasing the printer and heat press and renting a workshop, Cory was ready to start printing his own landscape photographs.

Once Cory had perfected the printing process he opened the Cory Marshall Gallery in Queenstown to showcase his stunning New Zealand landscape photography.

About ChromaLuxe Printing

Cory prints all of his artwork himself from his workshop in Wanaka using a process called dye sublimation to print his images onto ChromaLuxe Aluminium panels.

Dye sublimation is a two step process, the first step is printing the image in reverse using sublimation inks onto a transfer paper. The image is then placed on top of the specially coated ChromaLuxe Aluminium panels and put into a large format heat press. The heat press heats up to 170 degrees and applies a ton of pressure which turns the sublimation inks into a gas which then gets infused into the special coating on the ChromaLuxe panels.

ChromaLuxe’s unique coating allows prints to be showcased without the need for glass. ChromaLuxe metal prints are scratch resistant, waterproof and easily cleaned. ChromaLuxe metal prints were tested by Wilhelm Imaging Research and achieved a permanence rating of more than 60 years without fading or discolouring.

Frequently asked questions:

Have a question about ChromaLuxe Printing? If you can’t find the answer below, please get in touch over on our contact page.

  • ChromaLuxe is the leading producer of aluminium panels that are used in the dye sublimation printing process. This process infuses dye-based inks into the patented ChromaLuxe coating on the aluminium panels, creating prints with richer colours, greater clarity and a more resilient finish than traditional mediums like canvas or paper.

  • Independent laboratory testing has shown that ChromaLuxe metal prints have a display permanence rating of up to 65 years under normal lighting conditions, meaning that the human eye will not detect any noticeable fading or shift in the colour balance until the print is ready to collect a pension.

This rating is also three times higher than traditional silver-halide prints that have been framed under UV glass and is far more resilient to physical damage.

  • Part of the appeal of ChromaLuxe prints is how permanent and durable they are: there are no frames to break, glass to smash, or paper to rip. The special ChromaLuxe coating renders the prints scratch, stain, and moisture resistant, and makes them incredibly easy to clean – just spray the surface with any standard household cleaner and wipe it down with a cloth.

  • While our ChromaLuxe prints can be displayed outdoors without any risk of damage to the panel or print, we recommend not leaving them fully exposed to direct sunshine in order to prolong the life of your print and reduce fading and colour imbalance.

  • ChromaLuxe prints do not need to be framed or kept behind glass as the panel and coating of the print provide more than enough protection. However, if you prefer the look of a framed print you can frame it just as you would anything else.
